REPORT TO BCFOA 2009 AGM
ROSS THOMPSON, ALLOCATOR-INTERIOR
(KAMlOOPS-SALMON ARM-VERNON)
2009 was a pretty good year for my area in
varsity and j.v., with the
exception of Vernon jv games , as was the case last
season no officials in a town that has four jv teams
. The biggest problem is of coarse game times are 4pm in the early season and
as early as 1pm later (playoffs). Thanks to all who were able to travel to
Vernon for those afternoon games. Even though it was mostly the same group of
4-6 officials . Very little problems other than that as all games were covered
in both HS and JV . The Penticton varsity team again tried to have games and
with the help of Darryl on Kelowna we covered there games until they could no
longer field a team due to injuries ect.In
community ball we had two new teams come into the fold here in Kamloops
(jrB&Peewee) for a total of 6 plus a part time 9-man Bantam program . Early
in the season some games on Sundays were hard to cover due to four local
officials involved in the BCFC as they sometimes had to travel and as such
could not be used . Also an issue came up on one of
those days where a crew was forced to work 3 games in 30 deg. weather and by
the 3rd game guys were well lets just say a little tired (bitchy) . So we vowed to not let that happen again
. I recommend it for all areas three straight is a bit much . I would also like to recommend to schedulers to not
schedule community games on the Labour Day weekend or
the thanks giving Sunday as these days are difficult to cover
.
In closing I want to thanks Al Milton once again
as he was a big help on days when I was at my place of work and don't have
access to Arbiter . Also want to thanks all officials
and there significant others for another year of football .
This was my second year of allocating and I will be stepping down from the
position but I will help who ever takes over .
