PresidentŐs Report
2009 Season
As I write this report, the 2009 regular season
is drawing to a close and the playoffs are about to begin.
This season had over 800 games, including: community, high school, junior, CIS and
LionŐs support side crews.
My congratulations and thanks to all our
allocators who persevered to staff our game assignments:
Jamie
Graham – Lower Mainland
Bill
Watson – Assistant, Lower Mainland
Mike
Gatto – Island
Darryl
Hern – Interior (Kelowna)
Ross
Thompson – Interior (Kamloops)
Bert
Ducharme – Interior (Salmon Arm/Vernon)
Larry
Rohan – BCFC / CIS
Also special thanks to our educators: Ben Eskildsen
(high school) and Carey Anderson (Canadian).
I also wish to acknowledge and thank the BCFOA
executive; Tim Lederman (VP High School), Bruce Hawkshaw (VP Canadian), Ken
McKinnon (Treasurer), Directors Rick Nykorak, Erich
Wahl, and Bill Yerdon for their commitment and hard
work.
A special thanks to Greg Barnes (Past President)
for giving of his time and services for the past year to effect a smooth
transition.
A notable accomplishment for 2009 was the
harmonization of relationship with LMFRA.
It is my intent to have annual joint executive meetings to continue to
develop a collegial working atmosphere.
My thanks to LMFRA President Jeff Huot
for his willingness to seek accommodation.
Although 2009 had successes – some areas
of concern for the upcoming 2010 season remain – notably:
-recruitment
-electronic
teaching aids for the Island division
-standardized
training
Our application for the 2009 gaming grant was
denied which will lead to re-implementing some service fees to offset the lost
revenue.
The BCFOA Executive will be tackling, for 2010,
a strategic plan for recruiting, training and equipping our officials to enable
them to bring the highest level of professionalism to their game assignments.
So thanks to all of you for your commitment to
serve, willingness to travel, and family sacrifices so BCFOA can meet its
service requirements.
My personal congratulations to all of our
officials granted playoff assignments and I wish you and your families the very
best of the holiday season.
Dennis Abbott
President, BCFOA
