March Update – President Report

March 2018 – Update

To all officials,

We have now had a couple of meetings with the new executive.  The new members on the executive have jumped in with both feet and are really getting things moving. Clear roles are being defined as well as our organizational structure.  This is timely as our structure needs to be clearly defined for the new societies act.

Rod Fehr is still working his way through our constitution as we must have that completed to comply with the new societies act later this year.

I attended the BCPFA  AGM in early March.  Some good things coming forward from this Provincial body.  Youth Flag football was discussed and we were asked to have talks with that league to come under the BCFOA.  May be an opportunity for us to identify young people officiating that we can bring along to tackle and higher levels.  Very similar to what hockey does.  Talks have not yet started with that league.  Education funding will be made available to us to assist with clinics up North, the Island and the Interior.  They also expressed an interest in having only one officiating body for the Province.  Makes a lot of sense for education funding and training standards.

As a VP for the CFOA I will be attending the CFOA AGM back east, the first weekend of May.   Lots of discussion around updating levels clinics and online training standards. The CFOA wants to see a lot more collaboration between associations with one website for rules interpretations, training and posting of video clips.

As discussed at the AGM the executive has decided on a new Jacket with the BCFOA logo.  The jackets are made by Coal Harbour and are lined with internal / external pockets.  They are actually very nice jackets.  Drew Parkinson is the point person for this and has started gathering the sizing info.  All officials with 5 years or more years officiating and are members of BCFOA in good standing will receive a jacket free of charge.  Jackets will be available to members with less than five years for cost.

Sandy Bains will be available for sizing if needed on Saturday, April 7@ Lord Tweedsmuir 10 to noon and April 21 & 22  the Milner hall at 6716- 226st Langley.

Also, we have ordered pins with the BCFOA logo and some really nice challenge coins.  The pins will be given out to members free of charge.  The coins will be made available for a cost that has to be determined.  (see attached PDF)

Thx,  Nigel
